and im back from tekong.
hello ppl im back from tekong. i think these 2 weeks were good.
other than dying pretty badly for the pt (fell sick so had breathing problems),
im okay for all the activities.
and i did NOT feel homesick at all. im amazed. lol.
(previously thought homesickness was like something expected.)
you know, coming out back to civilisation,
it totally feels WEIRD, just to say the least.
like we are totally disconnected from the ROTW.
im glad i still have my good friends around
(And of course, someone else even more special)
who bother to stay in touch with me. :))
i sound so sad. haha.
and also, (im bloggin incoherently),
not to muse at the problems of others,
but i feel really lucky that i have someone who i can totally trust..
.. like one of my bunkmates had gf problems
and was damn down for 3-4 days.
yepyep :)
aside from that its another 7 more weeks to go out of 9.
2 weeks passed in a flash.
thanks to all the platoon 1 buddies for the great times i have had.
and of course, to my section mates who rock the house down.
out.

bullshido.com
wooot. gettin boootiful boxer from ariel by snailmail.
and the best quotes frm bullshido.com.
"forum title: november is.. taekwondo sucks month.
reply: hey.. wont there be novemeber 12 times a year?"
"because 90% of karate schools suck ballsacks.
which isnt too bad, 99% of kung fu ones do.
i have a paper in statistics so trust me on these numbers."
"Martial Arts is like sex,
if you over complicate it with exotic sounding names,
theories and principles, you end up fucking yourself in the ass."
(a big LOL)
"No surprise.
Until Aikido sheds its street-brawling, thuggish image,
it'll never be mainstream."
(holy shitz!?!?!)
on which MA is best:
"I said Krabi Krabong
because most people just don't know what it is.
But when one of your weapons is an armored war elephant
how much ass do you kick?"
and on the same thread:
"I don't know what a lot of those are.
I voted for Penjak Silat because I like the name."
what an idiot.
"TKD, ever since a TKD-kid came into our gym,
saw a class, went up to me and
asked if the 540 was legal in a MT match."
"Wanna see my moves?

and i thought i was tired.
yeap and when i thought i would be sick of training at home.
there will be new inspiration. lol.
(hmm going to mma academy would mean paying like damn lot lols.
for lessons i cant fulfil.
and the lack of a partner jus makes it more irritating.
at least in feb, aft bmt.
i have ariel <3. hes a guy btw.)
like ytd, i was watching choke highlights.
and then readin up on a lot of mma sites.
lockflow.com
knucklepit.com
when you see those guys drilling and sparring,
the inspiration to train really gets to you.
i guess its always like tt.
previously when i was into karate,
the olympic tigers video (altho that was tkd)
really inspired me.
so what now.
ufc - especially the ultimate fighter.
i really love training.
its tough, but the fruits of labour are immense.

anyway saw some shit on stomp.
those retards holy mamaa!!
shall highlight this thread to you.
for goddsake, if you want to take part in the ufc
(which in the first case, is so damn hard alr),
you need ground skills. not just striking arts. =.=
and with regards to krav maga,
i din noe " the one that’s just opened here in s’pore teaches rather
toned down techniques of this ancient art.."
yoyoyo. krav maga was started by the israelis 30 years ago?
rofl? rofl? ancient? woooh. my mama is a dinosaur den. LOL.
krav maga was started by the israeli military.
while most TMA focused on form and kata, krav maga was actually
an accumulation of the deadly and disarming strikes in martial arts.
in fact the one in singapore doesnt look too good to me. (saw it on tv)
its a well known fact that krav maga is being overmarketed.
and while they might teach you some genuine techniques,
i feel that alot of it is just kickboxing.
so why not just name it KICKBOXING! rofl.
if anyone is interested in ufc fighting styles though,
pls refer to my gym above lols.
well theres sth i agree though.
"Those fighters u see on UFC are unlike us…
their lifestyle and their training regime is not something
that we can easily ease ourselves into..
esp if u are a couch potato or a weekend warrior…"
hohoho. crazy training programs.
anyway lastly, i found pics of my instructors
facing each other during some competition. ah how exciting!

bruce with full guard

and whats new.
my fav coach, bruce (hes not teaching anymore =x),
ends up winner by armbar submission!
(think ufc referees haha..)
and lastly, picture perfect.
or i shld say punch perfect. haha.
the red guy is like KO-ed alr.
exciting shit.

well its raining and the midnight blues (or past midnight for that matter)
has struck again.
like the backdrop of rain really makes me sad.
and one of my fav emoo songs, really add to the emoness.
altho its really calming i must say.
Cause now again I've found myself
So far down, away from the sun
That shines into the darkest place
I'm so far down, away from the sun
That shines the life away from me
To find my way back into the arms
That care about the ones like me
three doors down. away from the sun.
sigh. time to sleep. goodnite to the world.
one last day tomorrow before NS starts.
well, like i have told many ppl.
i dont think i lack anythin in ns.
except someone.
and the cruel world mocks my words.

robert hohoho.
chanced upon mr robert ho's interesting articles recently.
and im terribly amused by his articles.
basically lot of flawed and unjustifiable claims in them,
however, i guess it would be really good to open up your perception
to the anti-PAP side.
also, its quite amazing how he can pick up details that are non-biased
and can convert them to facts siding him.
as well as nice arguments which are rather hypothetical.
like:
In this year's 2006 General Election, the PAP averaged 66.6% of the votes but in LEE Hsien Loong's very own GRC, he despite his cachet and his Father's dominating presence, got only 66.14%. This despite running against 6 neophyte no-hopers nobody has ever heard of and who the PAP boasted "will lose their deposits"!
"For example, another Ethical example, suppose a murderer murdered a young woman but is severely wounded in the process. He is taken to the hospital and needs a heart transplant to save his life. The only organ avalable is that of his victim. Should he get her heart? We should have a clause that says that those who harmed us should NOT get our organs."
disclaimer: i aint trying to be pro-pap or anti-pap or what.
i just think that these sites will be a good read, esp. for those trying
to beef up on their current affairs.
my favourite quote. read it from somewhere else i think.
martyn see - dissent is not disloyality.
okay shant let my cynicism take the fun out of your reading.
so heres the websites.
http://singaporerebel.blogspot.com/
http://i-came-i-saw-i-solved-it.blogspot.com/
and for the exciting part of the blogs.
http://www.p65.sg (frankly i think this is damn lame)
http://ephraim.blogspot.com (george yeo blogs!)
for views by other authors close to the heartland. these sites are good.
http://youngrepublic.blogspot.com/
http://calibratedcoercion.wordpress.com/
okay enough of local blogs to read about.
dont read xiaxue and museum-of-twits anymore!
(if anyone is interested in more, pls talk to me)
and some really good reads here.

continuation: why MMA over TMA.
for the uninitiated, TMA = traditional martial arts.
MMA = mixed martial arts.
As the name TMA implies, it stands for arts such as
taekwondo
jiujitsu
karate
muay thai
silat
savate
arnis
hapkido
boxing
aikido
(and so on so forth)
however, each art has its limitations.
for example, most arts mentioned above,
with the exclusion of jiujitsu, are stand up striking arts.
taekwondo for example, utilises the legs,
with the arms largely untrained for attack.
as such, their AoE (Area of effect) is between mid range and long range.
another example, boxing would be close range.
so, why mma?
basically mma fighters are trained in arts with vicious, powerful strikes.
some excellent striking arts would be muay thai,
kyoushin karate and lastly, a very new offshoot of karate,
ashihara karate (not sure abt the spelling.)
(and one look would tell you that aikido definitely doesnt fit the bill.
- its too non-violent. oops.)
next, they would train in a ground art, such as jiujitsu (frankly, i havent
heard of another ground art near jiujitsu. just variations of jj.)
and no judo doesnt count.
judo is a sport, not a martial art. yeap.
in fact, judo was an offshoot of jiujitsu which ppl believed was too violent
and dangerous to be in competitions.
anyway beware for some slight biaseness.
(i think taekwondo is damn fei)
so comparing a TMAist to a MMAist, in a fight,
the range of attack would be very limited.
the taekwondo fighter will be taken out by kicks to his thighs and
be taken into close range combat, with the MMAist giving punches
to which, most tkd fighters would b unused to.
(disclaimer: however, i still respect tkd as an art. just look at how the
koreans perform 720 turn kick. its amazing athleticism. however,
we have to question the practicality of tkd as a tool for self def)
if you are fighting a muay thai fighter, obviously the MMAist would
take some damage given muay thai's reputation for its damaging
strikes. however, a mmaist trained in grappling would take the
muay thai fighter to the ground,
rendering him useless and easily submitting him on the ground.
or if u are an MMAist fighting a grappler, you would be able to match
him on the ground.
but he would nt be able to match you standing up. simple as that.
however, MMA is not as easily learnt as jsut learning two arts.
there is much more need to control your opponent, and at the same time,
be able to throw punches.
in many ways, its like a refereed brawl.
ok its damn late alr. i think i shld sleep soon.
cant wait for matt serra vs GSP.

georges st pierre
hmm i guess its a bit perverse to show this picture
since like a guy shldnt b oogling at other guys hahaha. (dont worry yishan im neither gay nor bi =p)
but hes my idol man. i want his fighting skills and..
of course his hot bod wahhh!
damnit i just made a damn long entry on basic mixed martial arts fighting
and blogger screwed up. oh well. i will redo it quickly this time.
courtesy of wiki:
Mixed martial arts (commonly referred to as MMA) is a combat sport
in which two competitors attempt to achieve dominance over one another
by utilizing a wide variety of permitted martial arts techniques in full contact,
including striking and grappling.
Well-known MMA organizations include the Ultimate Fighting Championship
and PRIDE Fighting Championships.
The techniques utilized in MMA competition generally fall into two categories:
striking techniques (such as kicks, knees and punches) and
grappling techniques (such as clinch holds, pinning holds, submission holds,
sweeps, takedowns and throws).
Some unarmed hand to hand combat techniques are considered illegal,
such as biting, eye-gouging, fish-hooking and small joint manipulation.
Over the last ten years, strikes to the groin have become illegal in all sanctioned
MMA organizations.[citation needed]
The legality of other techniques such as elbows, headbutts and spinal locks vary
for those who think its violent, read below!
While MMA competition is occasionally depicted as brutal by the media,
there has never been a death or crippling injury in a sanctioned MMA event
in North America.
yes that is due to strict refereeing and rules made by fight regulators.
read somewhere that ufc has less injuries than NFL. dig that. its safe!

the left jab

the high roundhouse. notice fighters kick with their shins, which cause more damage.
of course, to do damage with the shin means u gotta take damage with them.
fighters train using a series of ways.
1. in thailand, thai fighters kick bamboo poles thousands of times a day.
2. some fighters kick sandbags filled with rocks.
3. others use a kali stick or sticks made of furniture grade wood and hit their shins.
(thats me!)

the elbow. rather deadly.
if u can do a spinning back elbow, u get extra 30k baht for that knockout in thai fights.
hows that man!

the knee! knocks the wind out of alot of fighters if u hit them in the ribs or the solar plexus.
national geographic fight science recorded a hit frm so
yeap. thats basically striking.

lastly, one of my favourite moves.
the backthrust. deals alot of damage. plus its unexpected.
however, drawback is that ur back is exposed to ur opponent.
now to submission grappling.
first a disclaimer, im nt exactly very trained in grappling so i will first apologise
if there are any mistakes.

the leg bar. usually not done forcefully during training,
for fear of hyperextension of knee.

the arm bar. the leg bar and arm bar are the basic moves.
however, you do not see them in pro-fights (seldom la!) because these
fighters drill so hard to evade these submissions which are sort of 'easy' victories.

the rear naked choke. (RNC - not REALLY NAKED COOK hurhur)
very deadly.
hard to predict when one loses unconsciousness.
and chokes can be classified into two types, blood choke and air choke.
the blood choke goes for the carotid while the air choke blocks the windpipe. yeah.

another of those crazy moves that can cause serious paralysis or even be fatal
the neck crank.
look at the guy in singlet.
his right arm is actually applying pressure on white-shirt-guy's neck and
a sudden movement can severe his cranial joint.
yeap thats all from me today! hope these are beneficial =p

about 4 more days.
reminiscing about some stuff again. im forever thinking about memories.
afterall i wouldnt say i have any negatives about ns, its just that u learn to treasure
ONLY when you have either lost them or you are just about to lose them. yeap.
printed some photos yesterday.. and i already cherish them alot.
afterall, its my ONLY link to the world (except my hp) during ns.
and more than that, these photos will be my motivation,
pushing me on,
supporting me,
when im down. (which i forsee cos im terribly emo).
yeap. so i was reading through some blog and decided to post these lovely songs.
well, they were never exactly special to me before. but somehow the affinity stood.
and yet we know how it came about.
aslyn - That's When I Love You
When u have to look away
When u don't have much to say
That's when I love u
I love u just that way
To here u stumble when u speak
Or see u walk with two left feet
That's when I love you
I love u endlessly
And when your mad cause u lost the game
Forget I'm waiting in the rain
Baby I love u
I love u anyway
Cause here's my promise made tonight
U can count on me 4 life
Cause that's when I love u
When nothing u do can change my mind
The more I learn the more I love
The more my heart can't get enough
That's when I love u
When I love u
No matter what
So when u turn to hide your eyes
Cause the movie it made u cry
That's when I love u
I love u
A little more each time
And when u cant quite match you clothes
Or when u laugh at your own jokes
that's when I love u I love u
More then u know
And when u forgot that we had a date
Or that look that u give when u show up late
Baby I love u ,I love u anyway
So here's my promise made tonight
U can count on me 4 life
Cause that's when I love u
When nothing u do can change my moind
The more I learn the more I love
The more my heart cant get enough
That's when I love u
When I love u
No matter what
Ohh that's when I love u when nothing baby, nothing u do could change my mind
The more I learn, the more I love, the more my heart can't get enough
That's when I love u , when I love u no matter what
Ohhhh no matter what
Craig David--Unbelievable
Always said I would know where to find love,
Always thought I'd be ready and strong enough,
But some times I just felt I could give up.
But you came and changed my whole world now,
I'm somewhere I've never been before.
Now I see, what love means.
[Chorus]
It's so unbelievable,
And I don't want to let it go,
Something so beautiful,
Flowing down like a waterfall.
I feel like you've always been,
Forever a part of me.
And it's so unbelievable to finally be in love,
Somewhere I'd never thought I'd be.
In my heart, in my head, it's so clear now,
Hold my hand you've got nothing to fear now,
I was lost and you've rescued me some how-.
I'm alive, I'm in love you complete me,
And I've never been here before.
Now I see, what love means.
[Chorus]
When I think of what I have, and this chance I nearly lost,
I cant help but break down, and cry.
Ohh yeah, break down and cry.
[Chorus]
Now I see, what love means
Why Don't You Kiss Her--Jesse McCartney
We're the best of friends
And we share our secrets
She knows everything that is on my mind
But lately somethings changed
As I lie awake in my bed
A voice here inside my head
Softly says
Why don't you kiss her
Why don't you tell her
Why don't you let her see
The feelings that you hide
Cuz she'll never know
If you never show
The way u feel inside
Oh im so afraid to make that first move
Just a touch and we
Could cross the line
And everytime she's near
I wanna never let her go
Confess to her what my heart knows
Hold her close
Why don't you kiss her
Why don't you tell her
Why don't you let her see
The feelings that you hide
Cuz she'll never know
If you never show
The way u feel inside
What would she say
I wonder would she just turn away
Or would she promise me
That she's here to stay
It hurts me to wait
I keep asking myself
Why don't you kiss her
Why don't you tell her
Why don't you let her see
The feelings that you hide
Cuz she'll never know
If you never show
The way u feel inside
Why don't you kiss her (tell her you love her)
Why don't u tell her (tell her you need her)
Why don't you let her see
The feelings that you hide
Cuz she'll never know
If you never show
The way you feel inside...
